Refill Instructions for Color Quartz Aggregate
  1. WE STRONGLY SUGGEST A TRAINED PROFESSIONAL HANDLE THE START-UP OF YOUR POOL.
  2. Disclaimer: The procedure outlined below has been successfully used in many installations of exposed aggregate swimming pool finishes containing Color Quartz Aggregate. The suitability of use of this procedure for a particular installation must be determined by an experienced applicator, and performed by trained professionals using good safety practices and following all applicable regulations.
  3. Fill pool normally, beginning immediately after installation of the plaster is complete. Keep you equipment off Run pump and filter system only as directed by the contractor. Low pH water can damage some equipment containing metal parts.
  4. Post a notice indicating: "No Swimming, Chemical Treatment in Progress" and follow all applicable rules and regulations. Pool must be closed and monitored at all times during acidification process. Put Safety First!
  5. Note: Muriatic acid should be used by trained professionals wearing personal safety protection and following proper safety procedures. Add pool-grade muriatic acid, typically 30-35% strength, at a rate of 1 gallon of acid per 4,000 gallons of pool volume. Pre-dilute acid by pouring into 4 gallons of pool water in a 5-gallon plastic pail, and pour into pool while walking around the edge. Rinse any spills immediately with large amounts of water.
  6. Brush pool surface from deck using an acid-resistant (i.e.-not nylon) brush. An algae brush with a combination of plastic and stainless steel bristles may be used. Rinse brush thoroughly after use.
  7. Repeat the brushing twice daily for 3-4 days.
  8. Pool water should be tested by a trained professional and balanced to NSPI standards. Use of a metal sequestering agent is strongly recommended.
  9. Appearance should be evaluated by a trained professional. Some unevenness of exposure is normal, and will even out under normal action of pool chemicals and cleaning. In some cases, further acid treatment may be necessary to complete the exposure process.
